Start together, straight away
Choose Start two-player chess to open the board. White moves first. Tap a piece, then a legal destination, and pass the device to your opponent. No invitation code is needed when both players share a screen.
Keep the board fixed for side-by-side play, or switch on automatic board rotation in Settings. Piece names and classic symbols are available to help players recognise each piece.
A fair game or a teaching game
Normal two-player play has no hints or undo. For learning together, both players can deliberately choose Teaching mode, giving equal access to progressive hints and undo. Teaching help is not available in online friend matches.
There is no timer in this casual mode. Checkmate, stalemate and supported draw rules end the game, and the completed record can be reviewed afterwards.
Are we playing on the same device or separate devices?
This mode is for sharing one device. To play from separate phones or computers, use a private online friend game instead. Send its link, readable join code or QR code to your intended opponent.
Free multiplayer chess with friendsCan we save the game and finish later?
Recent unfinished same-device games are stored in the browser and appear in My games. Use the same normal browser to return. Clearing its storage or using private browsing can remove the saved board.
Can we review the game together?
Yes. After the game finishes, review the moves and engine-estimated advantage. The review can highlight turning points and possible continuations without changing the recorded result.
Is there a free way to learn the rules first?
MineChess includes six interactive beginner lessons and a playing guide covering piece movement, castling, promotion and common game endings. You can use them without registering.
